HP splitting apart, cloud business still young | #HPDiscover

A mirror image of Hewlett Packard Co’s USA show, the major announcement of the first day of HP Discover Barcelona was the company’s split into two Fortune 50 companies. theCUBE co-host John Furrier commented on the news and said there was “not a lot of negative backlash on that. The consensus is there really is two companies, so why not create two companies?” The main focus now is getting the show on the road and continuing with the five-year HP turnaround.

Wikibon chief analyst Dave Vellante said HP made some important announcements yesterday, one of which was the new HP Integrity Superdome X, which is the first of the Superdome server line to feature Intel Corp.’s Xeno E7 line of processors. ”HP’s business critical system line of business is under fire. A lot of customers  knew this one was coming and they were sitting on their hands on other products.” said Vellante.

Other important product announcements came from 3PAR in storage, and the Chef reseller deal with HP which “provides cloud-like capabilities for on premise infrastructure,” said Vellante. The HAVEn on-demand announcement, bringing Vertica and Autonomy as on-demand services showed “HP is moving to a SaaS model.” said Vellante.
