Cheers: Picky Pint wants to make sure you never order a bad beer

picky pintNew app Picky Pint wants to cater to those who appreciate a good beer by making sure that you never unintentionally order a bad one again.

The app analyzes a photo taken of a beer list then provides information to users based on criteria including score and bitterness. The app also allows the user to get more information on listed beers, such as their alcohol content and a detailed description of each beer.

The use case argues that Picky Pint solves the problem of choice paralysis when looking at a beer list, allowing users to  select a beer according to their tastes, even when they’re not familiar with the beers on the list.

picky pint 2“I created Picky Pint in order to make it quick and easy to find a beer we’d love, and new ones we hadn’t tried before. The explosion of new and exciting craft beers being released made this the perfect time to create this app” co-founder Mike Parks explains.

There are competing apps in the space but the company argues that Picky Pint is the only app that allows a list to be scanned and results delivered on all the beers on offer, where as other apps require users to type in the name of the beer they’re interested in.

While not an app that you’re going to say wow about, you can see how it would be handy, particularly as the craft beer industry continues to grow and more bars and restaurants treat their beer selections as they do their wine lists. It would also be handy when traveling, either interstate or overseas where you’re confronted with range of beers you’re not familiar with.

Picky Pint is available on Android and iOS for free, or $2.99 for the pro version.
