Crowdfunded comic Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto goes on sale
The English-language version of the world’s first comic about cryptocurrency Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto has gone on sale following a successful crowdfunding effort that attracted a number of noted contributors.
The comic book, first announced at CoinSummit London in July, deals with differing perspectives surrounding the cryptocurrency in an effort to bring Bitcoin to a larger audience.
Set in a cyberpunk city peppered with all manner of tech, crypto, political and sci-fi references, Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto tells the story of three parties who are pursuing a list of men they believe to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the supposed pseudonym of the anonymous creator of Bitcoin.
“I have often struggled to explain my excitement and enthusiasm for Bitcoin to friends and family. I often thought that what we need is more compelling storytelling to share the idea of Bitcoin with a larger audience” creator Alex Preukschat said of the idea behind the comic. “In many ways, it’s important to engage before you seek to explain. To show before you tell.”
The team behind the book successfully crowdedfunded 64 Bitcoins ($21,110) for publication of the book, ahead of their original target of 40 Bitcoins ($13,193.) Supporters included Coinbase Inc., Chain Inc., Bitstamp PLC and Xapo Inc.
“The crowd [funding] went really well….It was very much a community driven project because almost 200 people supported it…” Preukschat told NewsBTC. “We hope [the support] will increase in the coming months around the world. Our goal now is to keep on finding new publishers for localized editions around the world with the support of local bitcoin communities.”
Bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto is available digitally from Comixology in both English and Spanish for $9.99. A print edition is currently available in Spanish, with an English print edition due to be released in 2015.
