Gaming does not exactly have the most forgiving community, and developers often find themselves under the collective ire of thousands of people calling for blood over something as simple as a low frame rate or a missing feature.

The latest game icon to fall prey to the anger of the mob is Peter Molyneux, a game creator with a reputation for outlandish promises who made the Fable and Black & White series. Molyneux has become so fed up with the negativity that he has sworn off speaking to the public entirely.

“I am so honored to be a part of the games industry, but I understand that people are sick of hearing my voice and hearing my promises,” Molyneux told The Guardian. “So I’m going to stop doing press and I’m going to stop talking about games completely.”

Molyneux “not being professional at all”

Molyneux has come under fire recently over questions surrounding the slow development of Godus, a god game developed by 22Cans that was funded through a Kickstarter campaign. The dissatisfaction gamers held toward Molyneux over Godus turned to anger this week after reports surfaced that Scot Bryan Henderson, a Scottish teen who won a contest in 22cans’ game Curiosity: What’s Inside the Cube?, had been largely ignored by the developer despite being promised a prize that would be “life changing.”

According to the reports, Henderson would be entitled to a percentage of the profits from Godus during a period of time where he acted as the “god of gods” in the game. But the “god of gods” feature has yet to be implemented or even developed, and there is no sign that Henderson will ever see any money from the company.

Even worse, Henderson said in an interview with Eurogamer that Molyneux and 22cans have been essentially ignoring him.

“Since I won and a year after, I would email them as a ritual thing, every month, just to get some kind of update,” Henderson said. “Eventually I was like, they’re not being professional at all. Communication is non-existent, so I’m not even going to try any more.”
