Enterprises take a platform based, turn-key solution approach to Big Data and Hadoop, thus building an ecosystem around Hadoop is a key priority to Hortonworks. “Hadoop is no longer an option; it’s a key piece of the overall architecture. There has to be a core that people like Platfora can build on top of,” said Jim Walker, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Hortonworks, Inc. In a live interview at theCUBE’s BigDataSV event, Walker was joined by Rob Rosen, the Senior Director of Partner Solutions at Platfora, Inc. The executives discussed the two companies’ partnership, how Big Data is shaping that partnership, and exciting new trends in the Hadoop market.
“We’ve reached a really interesting point in time with Hadoop. We’ve moved kind of from the build to the scale phase,” he explained. According to Walker, innovation around Hadoop is not only going to continue to happen, it is accelerating at a rapid pace.
Commenting on the partnership, Walker explained “Hadoop had to be established as a platform. People used Platfora to play with things, that’s changed.” According to Walker, Platfora are now using it to extract some real value out of Hadoop.
“We’ve heard very frequent comments about ‘we’re very data rich but insight poor’. We decided we needed to enable end data users,” Rosen stated. Platfora focuses on helping to move people to business insights that are critical. One’s ability to get to the insight quickly and figuring the right question quickly have always been big frustrations for enterprises. “Solutions like Platfora can help you find insight and discover amazing things that you did not know about your business,” he elaborated.
