Screenshots finally coming to Xbox One with March update

xbox-one-logoThe capability for Xbox One users to finally take screenshots and share them was teased by Xbox head Phil Spencer earlier this month. It’s beginning to look as if that feature will reach the console in March with a big update of other features.

According to the features document screenshots can be taken by double-tapping the Xbox button on the controller and then pressing ‘Y’ to save. Alternatively, players can speak aloud to the console and say, “Xbox Take a Screenshot,” although that seems more cumbersome than just yelling, “Screenshot!”

Once uploaded, the screenshot can be managed in addition to video clips. Further, screenshots can be used as backgrounds, shared to the activity feed, attached the messages, and eventually shared on Twitter.

Xbox’s competition Sony Corporation’s PlayStation 4 has already had a screenshot capability for over a year, and can share to Twitter and Facebook; and so does Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s Wii-U.

Other features included in the March update include a suggested friends feature that finds more people to be friends with, a new “real name” sharing feature that allows players to reveal the name behind the gamertag (or username on Xbox Live), the ability to adjust background transparency, and spam reporting.

In the case of spam, simply press ‘A’ while viewing the offending message and then follow “Report > Spam.”
