Apple Watch users will have 2GB of internal storage to keep their favorite music on the wearable and around 75MB for photos.

Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that all three versions –Sport, Watch and Edition– of the upcoming Apple Watch will ship with the same 8GB of internal storage. The limits described above apply to songs and photos stored locally on the Apple Watch and can be accessed without the wearable being paired to an iPhone.

Songs are synced to the Watch using the Apple Watch companion app on iPhone 5 or higher running iOS 8.2 or later.

The report estimates that 2GB of space for music would allow users to store around 200 “decent quality music tracks” –just enough to keep you company on your run. When the Apple Watch is paired with an iPhone, a user’s complete music library is available to stream via Bluetooth

The 75MB allocation for images may not seem like enough, but the local storage on the Watch is only meant for a user’s favorite photos and not an entire library. The allocated storage is put to optimal use as the Watch will automatically rescale images when imported, allowing them to take up less space and enhancing images for the Watch’s screen resolution. Images on the Apple Watch are managed by iCloud Photo Library and there should be enough space for around 100 images, depending on the quality.

The remaining 6GB of storage space is allocated to the wearable’s operation system and internal applications, miscellaneous date such as settings and application caches.

Once a native SDK is released for the Apple Watch, some of the remaining storage space will be allocated to storing application binaries and resources. At the moment, all application resources for Apple Watch apps are stored on a paired iPhone and temporarily transmitted to the Watch when a specific app is accessed.

The Apple Watch will be available for pre-order on April 10 and goes on sale April 24.
