Filters, a new photo editor for iPhone, offers 800 ways to transform photos

Filters for iOS

Released yesterday, Filters is a brand new photo editing app for iPhone that touts more than 800 ways to enhance photos through a range of filters such as authentic vintage film recreations, hand-painted textures, vibrant colored gel overlays, special multi-effect adjustments as well as standard image adjustment tools like brightness, contrast, color temperature and exposure.

The filters –there are over 500 of them – are organized into five categories: Vintage, Monochromatic, Dramatic, Cool and Warm. The filters provide realistic reproductions of vintage film stock processing effects as deliver by industry leaders such as Canon, Nikon, Leica, Fuji and Sony.  According to the developer, Mike Rundle, all the filters were hand-tuned by professional photographers and artists.

In addition to filters, there are 300 hand-painted textured overlays, colored gel overlays and light leak effects available in four blend modes to add drama to photos.

The usual adjustments like Brightness, Contrast, Color Temperature, Exposure and Saturation are also available, but the app adds five additional multi-effect adjustments to its arsenal: Shine, to make colors more vibrant, Luna, for a sepia effect, Intimidate, Color Boost and Smart Fade.

Rundle claims the app has “no gimmicky, silly or unusable” photo effects. According to him, he spent a year and a half designing and developing Filters and worked with artists, painters and photographers to get it just right.

The app costs just $1 on the App Store and all features are included, with no in-app purchases necessary.

Edited photos can be shared directly to social media and other services via iOS’ share sheet.
