Pivotal looks toward stability in Hadoop space | #emcworld
Pivotal Software, Inc., the EMC Federation member that specializes in big data and software, recognized and embraced the vibrancy of open source by moving portions of its Big Data Suite to open source.
“In the Big Data and traditional analytic space … thanks to Hadoop and the energy in the Apache organization, we’ve really seen open source establish itself as a sea change and as a requirement,” Mike Cucci, Pivotal’s senior director of outbound product, told theCUBE during EMC World 2015.
Bringing stability to the Hadoop space
The company also became a founding member of the Open Data Platform, an alliance comprised of companies such as GE, IBM, and Verizon, among others. Open Data Platform models itself after the Cloud Foundry Foundation, Cucci said.
“The Cloud Foundry Foundation helped stabilize the platform as a service ecosystem,” he added. “It brought in major players. We thought that we needed something similar in the data space. We are working toward bringing stability to the Hadoop space.
