Capgemini finds value in Federation business data lake | #emcworld

Consulting, technology and outsourcing corporation Capgemini (Cap Gemini S.A.) began working with the EMC Corp.’s Federation Big Data Lake solution before its March 2014 release. Steve Jones, Capgemini’s global VP of Big Data, sees Big Data as another means to provide value to Capgemini clients.

“Companies in the automotive, retail and oil industry, for example, don’t have a billion servers,” Jones told theCUBE during EMC World 2015. “Their business isn’t delivering technology. The less time they spend on hardware engineering, the better. Over a third of Big Data spend is coming from the business sector.”

Jones recalls that Capgemini partnered with a client on a project that was scheduled to take six weeks, but was cut short. “After two weeks, analytics proved that it wouldn’t deliver the value they wanted,” Jones said. “There’s nothing more stunning than seeing a business person’s face when you tell them, ‘We’re stopping the project because you won’t get the value.’”

Bring together data, analytics and applications

Capgemini’s relationship with EMC allows it to provide such cost-saving information. “Capgemini has been phenomenal as a partner,” said Aidan O’Brien, general manager of EMC Big Data Strategic Initiative, who also spoke to theCUBE. “We’re aligned in terms of how we work in the Big Data space and how to bring together data, analytics and applications.”

Jones has a few words on how companies can approach big data: “Simplify, rationalize, industrialize the infrastructure, and put your investment from a people perspective on delivering the new value.”
