DataStax launches DSE 4.7 for mixed workload environments
Most enterprises find themselves with more volume and variety of data than ever before, but at a time when everyone is jumping on the analytics bandwagon, that only increases the pressure on decision makers to exploit their data more effectively.
Which is why DataStax Inc. is trying to take the pressure off with its new DataStax Enterprise 4.7 (DSE 4.7) platform that offers integrated enterprise search, analytics, security, in-memory computing, and database management and monitoring, making it ideal for mixed workload environments.
“As the amount of data collected by enterprise web and mobile applications continues to grow at an immense rate, it’s critical to have database systems in place that are capable of providing instant insight into that data,” Robin Schumacher, Vice President of Products at DataStax, said in a statement. “With DataStax Enterprise 4.7 and OpsCenter 5.2, users can search, analyze, secure and manage all their online data in one platform and ensure it’s immediately available for real-time decision making”.
Among the new features, DES 4.7 comes with a new, certified version of Apache Solr that can be used in conjunction with Apache Spark’s SparkSQL to run analytics and search on the same nodes. DSE’s new “Live Indexing” capability also makes it possible to search new data immediately, while the platform draws on Cassandra’s native ability to run across multiple data centers and cloud availability zones, providing constant uptime for search operations.
Also with DSE 4.7, it’s now possible to run search and analytics tasks on the same machine simultaneously, meaning companies can spend less on their hardware and see an improved cost of ownership. Search queries can be transparently routed to the best performing machines in a cluster due to DSE 4.7’s “Intelligent Query” feature to further boost efficiency, while the platform can also customize the way in which failed queries are handled, delivering either partial results or a full retry automatically.
DataStax has also added new security features to the platform with upgraded ‘data at rest protection’ that allows for encryption keys needed to unlock data to be stored outside of the DSE cluster. Meanwhile the revamped OpsCenter 5.2 now supports both Active Directory and LDAP for administration security management, which makes it easier for administrators to control what users can do on database clusters.
Also in OpsCenter, DataStax is touting new visual features that make it easier for admins to provision, administer, and monitor multi-site databases.
DSE 4.7 is available to download now from DataStax’s website, while OpsCenter 5.2 will be up and running by the end of June.
