Invisible data management from CommVault | #NEXTConf
“We know that the industry is changing,” Don Foster, senior director of Product Management at CommVault Systems, Inc. told theCUBE’s Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman at the Nutanix’s .NEXT Conference 2015 CommVault.
“Customers are looking at information as an asset rather than a liability,” Vellante observed, which has led to CommVault’s recent re-branding as not only a Big Data company, but also as a leader in back-up. CommVault is accomplishing that goal with data net information by viewing it as the “next strategic asset … to drive more business value.”
Foster explained that CommVault offers its customers the choice of how to manage and approach their data to get the “best business value out of it” with Simpana.
A no-compromise solution
Commvault is a “platinum sponsor” at .Next and has been working with Nutanix to “provide really tightly integrated products for data protection and the overall data management solution with the Nutanix infrastructure,” Foster explained. That partnership has led to a “no-compromise solution” for customers by developing an integration of CommVault and Nutanix products.
“Nutanix is a member of our IntelliSnap Program,” in which “CommVault takes all the rigors and all the complexity of trying to drive a hardware-based snap-shotter [based on a] … single application, ensuring that everything is consistent and allowing that snapshot to be the precursor for your entire data management process,” Foster clarified.
The brand is “modernizing” by changing attitudes toward data by using “sharper thinking” in regards to backing-up data. Recently, CommVault announced an ability to run developmental tests within the Cloud, a development that is “turning insurance on its head,” claimed Foster. “One single index to simplify” and “a lot more depth and breath on that information” are features businesses can expect from Simpana.
Foster and his team are “trying to make the management invisible” while automating and protecting the metadata collection. Foster advises, “At least have a policy” in regards to deletion, and in the event that a business changes that policy, by using Simpana that business would only need to alter the program and its data once.
