JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics, calls the Galaxy Tab S2 the company’s “thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever.”
Both versions have a metal frame and are only 5.6mm thin, with the 8-inch version weighing 265 grams and the 9.7-inch version weighing 389 grams. Both versions feature a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536.
Samsung touts the display heavily in its announcement, saying:
The tablet also presents deeper contrast and more precise detail to provide a best-in-class reading experience with the Super AMOLED display delivering 94% of natural tones to show true-to-life colors (Adobe RGB color standard). Users can now enjoy galleries of vividly detailed photos and effortlessly shop online while viewing the most accurate images on the Galaxy Tab S2.
In addition, the Galaxy Tab S2 continually offers its advanced screen technology to display bright and natural content for a more comfortable visual experience. Adaptive Display intelligently adjusts gamma, saturation, and sharpness based on the application, the color temperature of the viewing environment and ambient lighting. Also, Reading Mode modifies the screen’s brightness level to help users to read content for longer periods of time without straining their eyes.
For high-efficiency users, the Galaxy Tab S2 comes preloaded with Microsoft Office Solutions, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
Both versions will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop and feature Samsung’s Exynos 5433 octa-core processor with four cores running at 1.9GHz and four running at 1.3GHz. Both versions will have 3GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front camera, fingerprint scanner and multitasking capabilities to run two apps side-by-side on the screen.
The Galaxy Tab S2 will be available in both Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and LTE versions and come with 32GB or 64GB storage options. Both versions will have a microSD card slot in order to an additional 128GB SD storage.
Samsung has not disclosed pricing for either model yet but said both versions will be available in global markets starting from August 2015.
