Coming this fall: What we know about Google’s two new Nexus phones
Google is expected to announce its next flagship smartphone sometime in October, but consumers may be surprised as to what the company will be unveiling this year.
Rumors suggest that there will be two Nexus devices coming out this year, and these devices will come from two different companies. According to rumors, there will be one Nexus device coming from South Korean company LG Electronics, Inc. and another one in partnership with Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
LG’s Nexus
Code named Bullhead, the device is said to feature a 5.2-inch screen, a Snapdragon 808 processor and a 2700mAh battery. No news yet as to what storage capacity will be available for the rumored device.
Huawei’s Nexus
Dubbed the Huawei Angler, this is a device that, while many were not expecting, is something that many would be interested in. According to Evan Blass (@evleaks), notorious phone leaker, the device will feature a 5.7-inch screen, Snapdragon 810 chip, 3500mAh battery, a metal body and fingerprint reader. It will reportedly ship during the fourth quarter of 2015.
Both devices are expected to be announced alongside Android M, the next iteration of Google’s mobile operating system, which is said to feature a built-in fingerprint API and a fingerprint screen on the locked screen; “doze” mode, which may save more battery; and Android Pay and Google Now on Tap, Google’s contextually aware digital assistant.
Last year’s Nexus was announced on Halloween along with Android 4.4 KitKat. The device, made in collaboration with LG, featured a 4.95-inch 1920×1080 display (445 ppi) with full HD IPS, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 1.3MP front facing, 8MP rear facing with Optical Image Stabilization, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 2.26GHz, Adreno 330 450MHz GPU, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 2300 mAh battery that has up to 17 hours of talk time, 300 hours on standby, 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, 7 hours on LTE, and built-in technology for wireless charging.
This year’s devices are expected to sport better features compared to last year’s model.
