Platform9, a Cloud service that transforms infrastructure into an agile, self-service private Cloud, is one of a new generation of startups that approach OpenStack in a new way. “Our goal is to make private Cloud at any scale extremely out-of-the-box, intuitive and simple,” said Madhura Maskasky, Platform9 cofounder and VP of product. “We package OpenStack and deliver it as a web service.”

Maskasky told Jeff Frick, host of theCUBE from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that today’s market is perfect for Platform9. “Our end users understand the value proposition that OpenStack provides,” she said. “It’s no longer a question of why should I care. Customers want an OpenStack strategy. That’s where we come in.”

Moving into an open-source world

Maskasky, who cofounded Platform9 after nearly eight years at VMware, Inc., said that moving into the open-source world was a shift “not only in terms of how you look at technology, but also in how you want to market and present yourself as a company. Open source is all about community. That’s an important part of our culture.”

With the general availability of Platform9 Managed OpenStack for VMware vSphere environments recently announced, Platform9 continues to break down installation and operational barriers. “We’re here to make OpenStack available to enterprises in a production-ready way,” Maskasky said.
