Starting from 1 pm Eastern/10am Pacific you can get all the Apple launch details from the event live here; for the latest updates refresh the page every couple of minutes once the event has started; note the live blog is in chronological order with the oldest from the event coming first and all times are in U.S. Eastern.

11:30am: some reports in the lead up to the Apple live event today are suggesting we might see new Apple Watch bands and features, something we’ve not previously heard; stay tuned, we’re 90 minutes away from the start of the event.

11:45am: a reminder if you want to watch the live stream from the event today check out Where to watch Apple’s iPhone 6s launch event Sept. 9 for details.

12:45pm: 15 mins to start time and the last great pre-event rumor is that there will be an announcement that the new iPhone will ship with an “always on” version of Siri similar to that provided by Google Now on some Android phones; given the reference to Siri in the Apple event invite, there will definitely be something Siri related today.

12:55pm: about 5 minutes away now :)

1:03pm: Apple CEO Tim Cook enters ever so slightly late with a welcome to the crowd.

1:08pm: Apple Watch up first; along with the addition of public transport to Apple Maps, there are now said to be 10,000 Watch apps on the App Store. Facebook Messenger is coming to the device, along with a new app from GoPro, Inc.

1:13pm: Apple has entered a new partnership with Hermes International S.A. to provide new watch bands, that will be available in selected stores. Price not discussed, but probably won’t be cheap.

1:16pm: new Watch colors include rose and aluminum in the sports range. In a blast from the past there is also going to be a Red band, with some profits going to the charity of the same name.

Watch OS2 will be available September 16.

1:19pm: iPad time. Tim Cook: “today we have the biggest news in iPad since the iPad.”

1:21pm: Surprise: it’s an iPad Pro!

1:23pm: iPad Pro specs: comes with the option of a keyboard, and the screen size is as expected 12.9 inches. 2732x 2048 at 5.6 million pixels, higher than a MacBook Pro with Retina screen.

1:26pm: A9X chip as expected, described as “so fast,” 1.8x times faster than the A8X chip it replaces. “Doubled the performance of graphics” and “faster than 80 percent of portable PCs shipped in the last 12 months.

1:29pm: iPad Pro has a four speaker stereo system that auto balances and puts out 3x more than the iPad Air audio.

Weight: the iPad Pro weights 1.5 pounds, same as the very first iPad despite being much larger.

1:31pm: along with a new soft keyboard known as the “smart keyboard” complete with woven fabric and a new connector, the iPad Pro will also offer a stylus called the “Apple Pencil.”

1:37pm: It probably goes without saying that Steve Jobs is turning is his grave at this point given he hated stylus’. Just for something different, a guy from Microsoft is now demonstrating how great the Apple Pencil works with Microsoft Office on the iPad Pro.

1:43pm: demonstration from a guy from Adobe about how great the iPad Pro is. It does look good.

1:45pm: the resolution of the new iPad Pro apparently has medical applications; whether this is simply one aspect of the product, or part of Apple’s big pitch for the Pro isn’t clear.

1:50pm: 12mgpx camera, HD Facetime camera, 10 hours battery life, and environmentally friendly. Comes in silver, gold and space gray.

WOW: $799 for the base model at 32GB, cheaper than expected. Apple Pencil $99, smart keyboard $149, all available in November.

1:52pm: Twitter remembers the words of Steve Jobs:

1:54:pm iPad Mini 2 dropped to $259 as the base/starter model.

1:55pm: Apple TV time.

1:57pm: “The future of television is apps,” says Cook. Says we need a new foundation for TV, one that runs on powerful hardware, complete with API to allow developers to develop apps, complete with an app store that allows customers to personalize their experience.

2pm: new set top box with “revolutionary” remote and new OS. New remote has a glass touch experience that allows users to glide across the screen.

As expected, the remote has a “Siri button” that allows users to query things to watch.

2:02pm: Siri will allow searches across multiple apps and deliver the results on the one screen, including iTunes, Netflix, HBO, and various others.

2:07pm: demonstration of the new Apple TV shows how intuitive Siri is on the device including bread crumb searches, support for more general queries, along with support for Apple music searches as well.

2:10pm: brand new operating system is called tvOS, developers can use XCode to deliver apps…and YES, GAMES, with a range available at launch including even (apparently it still exists) Guitar Hero!

Beat Sports shows off exclusive games for Apple tv launch event 2015

2:17pm: various game demos, best way to describe some of them is that the new Apple TV is like a reincarnation of the original Wii, complete with a “game for the entire family” called Beach Sports (Wii Sports anyone?) where you use the remote complete with moving it around, to interact with the game… just like we all once did with the Wii.

2:21pm: Guy from Major League Baseball demos the MBL app; if you’re into sports you’re likely going to love this, with the app being able to do things like showing stats while also still showing the game, and a split screen function that will allow you to watch two games at once.

2:25pm: hardware specs: “most powerful ever.” New Siri remote running on Bluetooth, will also control TV volume (presumably infrared), lasts three months between charges, is rechargeable by lightning port.

32gb $149 or 64GB for $199. Existing Apple TV staying on sale for $69.

2:26pm: finally what we’ve been waiting for: new iPhone time.

2:28pm: as expected the new phones are named the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Cook says they may look familiar, but everything is new, the “most smartphones in the world.”

Advanced 3D Touch is now available on the iPhone 6S and 6S plus launch event 2015

2:32pm: colors: silver, gold, metal + new rose color. Also as expected will launch with new 3D Touch which is described in a video voiced by Jony Ive as a a “whole new dimension” on how you experience your iPhone.

“Along with recognizing gestures, now recognizes force,” Ive says, before nothing that are described as ping and pop.

2:37pm: now a demo on how the “third dimension” delivers new ways of interacting with the new iPhone. No mention yet of the learning curve, but it does look appealing and will definitely be loved by power users.

2:41pm: good point from Twitter:

2:43pm: A9 chip 70-90 percent better than the A8.

2:46pm: Siri always on feature is called “Hey Siri” and allows users to query the phone without opening the phone up.

New camera: 12mgpx iSight camera, 50 percent increase over last model. 50 percent more “focus” pixels as well with new sensor.

2:50pm: new camera supports 4k video that delivers “high degree of details.” Demo of it is gorgeous.

2:53pm: selfie lovers don’t miss out with the front facing Facetime camera coming in at 5mgpx and Apple for the first time using the Retina screen of the new phone to act as a flash…possibly an industry first and if not an interesting way to use the screen to enhance selfies.

2:56pm: new photo feature called “live photos” takes multiple shots 1.5 seconds apart, kind of like a slightly disjointed animated gif, can be viewed with music in a video like way.

Wireless: LTE improved up with full support for 26 global LTE bands and upgraded WiFi with support for latest quick Wifi standards.

Official confirmation of an Android app for users wishing to switch to the iPhone.

New iPhone 6S prices apple launch event 2015

3:02pm: pricing for 6S same as 6 ($199/$299 on plans). Pre-order September 12, on sale September 25, multiple countries.

New iPhone upgrade plan is $32/mth, allows you to get a new iPhone every year, plan is over 24 months.

3:05pm: looks like Tim Cook is starting to wrap it up now. No surprises :(

3:10pm: One Republic, which is apparently a favorite band of Tim Cook (yeah… OK) is ending the event with a some sort of boy band song.

No “one more thing” announcement today.

No great surprises today, but an impressive range of new Apple products none the less; the most ground breaking one is without question the new Apple TV with its support for games delivered by its Wii like remote.
