For the international IT infrastructure and advisement of Computacenter PLC, the tools provided by Splunk, Inc.’s application options and data management have proven quite useful. At the Splunk .conf2015 event in Las Vegas, Computacenter’s Data Analytics CTO, Aleem Cummins, spoke with John Furrier and Jeff Frick, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, about how Computacenter has been integrating those tools and responding to new opportunities.
One of the early points of discussion was Cummins’ view of how Splunk and its conference had grown from previous years. “What I see in the show … is the maturity we now have with operational analytics,” he stated, moving on to examine the ways in which the data management Computacenter had drawn from Splunk had influenced its handling of backlog treatment, market dynamics and other business/data analysis.
He felt that by now, “using Big Data is not just nice to have, it’s something we need to have in terms of competitiveness,” and that by approaching its workflow with the information it provides, his company has been able to spread newly identified practices to increase productivity quickly across operations.
Cummins also noted how the information drawn from Splunk-based data management had spread beyond the confines of the IT department to shape virtually every aspect of the company. Identifying data analytics as “a thread that runs through the entire business,” he pointed to the improvements made possible by enhanced operations intelligence and the effects on company-customer relations.
“People know that we are living in the ‘Big Data’ world,” he said. “Our customers are expecting more, and indeed, we are expecting it of ourselves.” With an optimistic outlook on Splunk’s IT Service Intelligence and management services in the future, and the mutual benefits of working with Splunk, Cummins anticipated further positive developments from the conference and company.
