Industry disruption creates a ‘golden age’ in innovation | #oow15

Last year’s Oracle OpenWorld “basically anointed the Cloud,” according to theCUBE’s Jeff Frick. This year, attendees can expect a focus on Cloud, applications and Big Data during theCUBE’s three-day, wall-to-wall coverage of Oracle OpenWorld 2015. Oracle has recently shed all of its PC business and is now all in the cloud. Stu Miniman and Jeff Frick, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, discussed the effect of the Cloud on the industry.

Frick remarked that the rise of Cloud has changed the expectations of IT and the pace of business. The lastest trend in Cloud is the hybrid of public and private space. These hybrid clouds offer the most challenge, as the system needs to be secure but accessible. Miniman described the need for handling change management in a “friction-less” way. In addition, the cohosts conversed over the need for less fragility in new security measures, particularly in regards to automation in aspects such as patches. Frick stated that the disruption in the industry has created a “golden age” in innovation.

Cisco’s aggressive partner strategy

Cisco Systems, Inc. is “at the center of many environments” as every enterprise seems to have Cisco products. The company is extremely pervasive in this field. Cisco has also exhibited an “aggressive partner strategy,” which has kept Cisco at the forefront of the industry. Its presence at almost every major technology conference is due to multiple partnerships with service providers.
