Oracle OpenWorld 2015 is one of the largest conferences in the tech world, and the shockwaves sent out from the floor of the show were felt around the globe. As an industry giant, Oracle has a huge pull all on its own, but major players across the industry also attend, if for no other reason that to see what their competition has planned. Connections and conversations made at the show will influence business for years. So how does it all come together?
To draw back the curtain on the world behind the stage, John Furrier and Brian Gracely of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, joined Tania Weidick, VP of event marketing at Oracle, during Oracle OpenWorld 2015.
The discussion started with a look at the show itself. Weidick mentioned the conference was big enough to partner with the city itself, which allowed them to close down a street to make more room for the crowds. More than four-hundred partners and exhibitors are featured in the show, she said. Weidick explained that they’ve done a lot of work making it easy to navigate and experience. The real draw, though, was the attendees themselves. She said they come to network, meet with customers and learn from each other.
The conference itself was only a focus point of an effort that moves all year long. Weidick described how the show would be followed by thousands of seminars based on the content here, along with speakers and videos.
Even with a planned layout, the convention could be overwhelming. Weidick explained that people new to it all should start with the keynote presentations, then walk around, talk to people and take in the social experience. They even offered a mobile app, she said, with listings for events and activities.
Weidick also described how Oracle had worked to create moments throughout the convention that people would remember and talk about. Small things, she said, special gestures, matter to attendees.
