No other details have been released.
PlayStation Network is not having a good day today. PS3 players cannot log in and the status says services are offline.
The outage affects all players, and those attempting to log in on a PlayStation 3 receive a message that the network is down for maintenance. No maintenance was announced for today.
Sony has updated the PlayStation support page with the message: “NOTICE: We are currently under maintenance, and you may be experiencing issues. We appreciate your patience.”
While there have been DDoS threats against console gaming services such as Xbox Live and PlayStation Network — an echo of the outage that struck both during Christmas Day 2014 — those threats did not come to fruition. Both services have seen numerous unplanned outages in the past 12 months, which does not mean this one is caused by a DDoS or hackers. It could be just random after-the-holiday happenstance.
