Driving down the cost of predictive analytics | #RMWisdom16

Predictive analysis is one of the great powers of Big Data, and it gives companies the ability to act on the massive amounts of data that modern businesses collect. However, to make use of this power, companies need special tools and skilled experts who can separate important information from the noise. RapidMiner represents a powerful tool for driving down the compute and expertise cost of predictive analysis, according to Lars Bauerle, chief product officer at RapidMiner (Rapid-I, Inc.).

To gain some insight into RapidMiner, Dave Vellante, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, talked with Bauerle at the RapidMiner Wisdom 2016 conference.

An architecture of productivity

The discussion started with an overview of the RapidMiner system itself. Bauerle said it was a productivity tool at heart. The system, he said, offered several pieces, such as a server component to push down processes and facilitate collaboration. It can deploy into other systems, integrating into their applications. He also added that they recently included a cloud component.

The latest version of the system, Bauerle said, offers a starter kit to help prospective users get set up, along with tutorials and prebuilt example processes. They want new users to get into the system as easily as possible.

Finding their customer

Bauerle mentioned the new version of RapidMiner was receiving some strong feedback. In addition, they had run usability studies to see how easy it was for new clients to absorb the latest version.

They had also seen a lot of interest from an unexpected sector. Marketing departments, Bauerle said, were generating a lot of pull for RapidMiner. These departments had been traditionally under-supported, he said. They’ve also found customers in the power user community, offering their services to people who need to validate data and run statistical modeling.

Bauerle then spoke about RapidMiner’s future plans. He said they were ready to continue working toward ease of use in its products. Opening up RapidMiner to further Big Data integration was also a high priority. Cloud support made up the third leg of the company’s investment strategy.
