Simplifying the data environment: Hadoop, streaming and gaining a competitive advantage | #BigDataSV
The buzz in the Big Data world is all about speed. How fast can a company get their data, and even more importantly, how quickly can they draw value from it? The solutions, such as streaming, are becoming a vital part of Big Data business. Unfortunately, these systems are not cheap or easy to set up. Companies that want the Big Data advantage often find it useful to turn to partners to help them set up their Big Data environments.
To open a window on the world of these partnerships, Jeff Frick (@jefffrick) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, rom the SiliconANGLE Media team, joined Lawrence Schwartz, chief marketing officer of Attunity, Inc., at the BigDataSV 2016 conference in San Jose, California, where theCUBE is celebrating #BigDataWeek, including news and events from the #StrataHadoop conference.
Fitting in
The conversation started with a look at the problems customers face with these new technologies. Schwartz said that people are concerned about how to fit in with the ecosystem and how the puzzle pieces fit together. This sort of high-level thinking, he said, shows a level of maturity in the environment.
One of the gears in the Big Data machine is Hadoop, a framework that supports large data processing. Schwartz commented on how people were trying Hadoop at the edges, but now it’s hitting the core of the environment. Companies are looking to it for a competitive advantage.
The new people
More companies are coming to Big Data than ever before. These new customers have their own needs. Schwartz said they’re looking for ways to manage their data, and “how can we help them?” The broader question, he said, is data management as a whole and how various solutions fit into that.
One of the things Attunity has been working on is a way to help customers cleap up and handle data in a warehouse. He said that companies want to automate the process and simplify the whole environment. That’s how a business gets an advantage from the data, he said.
