Nintendo reveals E3 plans with heavy focus on Zelda

At this year’s E3, Nintendo Co Ltd will finally be unveiling the next game in its popular The Legend of Zelda franchise, and today the game maker detailed its plans for the event, which includes a playable demo of the game on the show floor.

“At E3 this year, we’re treating people to an immersive Zelda experience,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said in a statement. “By giving attendees extended hands-on time with this remarkable game, they’ll be able to get a much deeper understanding of something new for the franchise.”

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will kick off Nintendo’s E3 event at 9 a.m. PDT on June 14, and the Nintendo Treehouse team will be livestreaming our first glimpse of actual gameplay from the new Zelda game.

Fans have been waiting a long time for a new, non-mobile Zelda game – nearly five years, in fact – and the release of the new untitled game has already been pushed back more than once. The release date has been pushed so far back that Nintendo will now be releasing the game on the the Wii U and the upcoming Nintendo NX console, which will be releasing sometime around March of next year.

So far, there are few details available about the new Zelda game, but from what little we have seen, it appears to be returning once again to the style of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the first 3D Zelda game released on the Nintendo 64 nearly 18 years ago.

If you would like the chance to be one of the first people to try out the new Zelda, Nintendo is holding a contest where one lucky fan and a friend will be able to fly out to Los Angeles for the E3 event and play the game in person.

To enter, simply tweet @NintendoAmerica with a message about what the Zelda series means to you with the the hashtags #MyZeldaLegend and #NintendoSweepstakes. Winners will receive hotel and airfare for two along with a $500 prepaid Visa gift card.
