Service management across the enterprise was ServiceNow, Inc.’s COO Dan McGee’s keynote theme as the Knowledge16 Conference moved into Wednesday events at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas.
Kicking off the day’s coverage were Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, who reminisced about the big names they interviewed in the past few weeks, including Michael Dell at EMC World, MLB Hall of Fame slugger Reggie Jackson, and the 22nd U.S. Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert Gates at Knowledge16.
“Security is a theme for the day,” announced Vellante who stated that security is the “least understood but greatest aspect” of ServiceNow, with the new Security Operations platform helping the IT team respond to security incidents. Another feature that Vellante discussed is engagement, with chat channels such as those in Slack making it easy to subscribe to channels and connect within ServiceNow.
Investors generally are very positive on ServiceNow but have voiced concerns that the company is seeing a deceleration of billings, and are fearful world dominated by AWS. Vellante and Frick agreed that they “don’t get it” and see ServiceNow contract values continuing to go up and billings will ultimately take care of themselves.
Vellante said that it’s about choice, saying, “If a customer wants to manage AWS services inside of ServiceNow, great.” As a focused application platform around service management, he sees ServiceNow as staying ahead of the competition and focused on the customer. Frick agreed, saying that he sees opportunity for more business within existing accounts, as well as many new account prospects.
