Oculus finally fulfills the last of its Rift pre-orders
Facebook-owned Oculus VR has announced that it is finally caught up with pre-orders for Oculus Rift, nearly four months after the $599 virtual reality headset officially launched. According to Oculus, the last of the Rift pre-orders have shipped, and new orders for the device will be fulfilled within 2 to 4 business days.
“We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps,” the Oculus team wrote in a blog post. “We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn’t be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months.”
Oculus also noted that it is on track to release its motion controller, Oculus Touch, in the second half of 2016, and it seems likely that the launch window will fall sometime around its Oculus Connect conference in October.
This will be the third year Oculus has hosted its conference, which will run October 5 through October 7. This year’s speakers will once again include Oculus CTO John Carmack and Chief Scientist Michael Abrash, both of whom gave in-depth talks last year on the company’s technological progress and how far it still has to go to create a true virtual simulation of real life.
During his talk last year, Abrash explained that VR is still only in its early stages, and he believes that the medium will see plenty of improvement in the coming years.
“VR opens up a whole new universe of possibilities, and once you’ve experienced it, it’s obvious that it’s going to change the world in a big way,” Abrash said during last year’s Oculus Connect. “And the truly amazing part is that we’ve barely started down the path toward what VR is capable of. Decades of innovation and new experiences lie before us.”
