Leaked pictures show 3 new iPhone models including a dual-camera Pro version

Another day, another round of iPhone 7 leaks including photos and possible confirmation that Apple, Inc. will launch three new versions of the phone come September instead of the traditional two.

At the top of the list comes an alleged shot of the three models, the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7 Pro, that were obtained by Nowhereelse.fr from Chinese social media.

Rumors of an iPhone Pro model first emerged in March but the photos are the first hard proof that it is happening.

It’s difficult to say from the photographs as to the size of the iPhone Pro however it does look ever so slightly larger that the iPhone Plus, but the biggest difference between the phones is with the rear camera: the iPhone Pro is gaining the long rumored dual-lens camera while the iPhone and iPhone Plus appear to have a more traditional single camera setup; that is going to disappoint iPhone fans no end as if it extended across the range it could have been the defining difference with the new models versus the iPhone 6s.

Another picture leaked on Chinese microblogging site Weibo also shows that the iPhone Pro will be offered in four colors, with another picture of the standard iPhone posted on Italian blog Macitynet showing the standard four colors as well: Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold.

Gorilla Glass 5

Following an announcement from Corning that it was introducing Gorilla Glass 5, BGR speculates that the iPhone 7 range will not only use the new glass but it will make the phones basically indestructible.

Gorilla Glass 5 is said to be designed to offer displays much more protection during accident drops, with labs test finding that displays remaining intact during 80 percent of drops that occurred up to heights of nearly 6 feet, and that the glass also holds up extremely well when even dropped onto rough surfaces; this would make Gorilla Glass 5 four times as resilient than its predecessor.

Confirmation

The photographs also provide confirmation of previous rumors and leaks about the phone, the most notable being that Apple is abandoning the headphone jack and that the form factor of the phones is not being changed from the iPhone 6 and 6s despite Apple traditionally making a change every second year.

Previous rumors have included wireless charging, a bigger 3,100mAh battery for the iPhone 7 Plus and 256 GB of internal storage, the iPhone 7 Plus having 3 GB of RAM while the iPhone 7 will stick with the 2 GB found on current models, and redesigned antenna bands.

Despite one image being published that purports to show the iPhone 7 booted up it’s impossible to tell whether Apple has upgraded the screen on the phones to OLED or not.

If the iPhone 7 Pro is launched come September it will provide a point of differentiation for the new range that given what we know so far isn’t all that exciting, with a survey of iPhone owners finding that only 9 percent were likely to upgrade to the iPhone 7 if it wasn’t redesigned.
