Making flash scale-out storage easier for end users | #VMworld
EMC XtremIO is bringing flash scale-out storage and making it easier for end users — something no one else seems to be doing, according to Rami Katz, senior director of Product Management at EMC.
Katz spoke with John Wallis (@JohnWalls21) and John Furrier (@furrier), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during VMworld US 2016.
EMC XtremIO and ease for end user
EMC XtremIO is bringing all-flash storage with innovations like data placement and dual-stage metadata — and its priority is ease for the the end user.
“You really unleash the power of this technology when you give it to the users,” said Katz. With XtremIO, it’s all about the enormous benefits of what flash can give someone, the scale-out potential and the redesign of all their copies technologies.
Database copies technologies to create huge efficiencies
“In today’s world, if a user or application owner would like to get a copy of the database, he needs to talk to the storage admin … storage admin is probably doing something, or he needs to stop doing it,” said Katz. “Or maybe he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll get to you in two weeks.'”
But if you give the power to the end user, they can get it when they want and use the data for a variety of reasons, he added. For example, something like a financial institution used to only have two copies of their database, and now they can have 20, Katz stated.
