Rebranded the World of Watson, IBM Corp.’s analytics-driven Insight event is evolving for today’s data-centric mindset. Big Blue’s spent plenty of time and money developing the powerful platform Watson to support artificial intelligence and cognitive computing programs needed to contextualize datasets, seeing opportunities in healthcare and finance sectors. Kicking off this week in Las Vegas, IBM World of Watson 2016 will highlight enterprise use cases for advanced analytics and their underlying IT architecture solutions.  SiliconANGLE will be at IBM World of Watson with exclusive interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE*.

IBM’s Q3 results last week saw the company’s revenue in strategic imperatives up 14 percent, a trend that Martin Schroeter, senior vice president and chief financial officer of IBM, attributes mostly to Watson. IBM now has more than 7,000 employees in its Watson health business. The company is set to spend $200 million on new cutting-edge labs in its Watson IoT headquarters in Munich.

To provide some structure for its cognitive computing vision, IBM launched its Watson Application Developer Certification earlier this month, aimed at developers who make use of the artificial intelligence platform.

The lineup of speakers at IBM World of Watson includes various IBM executives such as Ginni Rometty, chairwoman, president and chief executive officer; Bob Picciano, senior vice president of IBM Analytics; Inderpal Bhandari, global chief data officer; and Derek Schoettle, general manager of IBM Analytics Platform Services.

Other speakers include Stewart Butterfield, CEO and co-founder of Slack Technologies Inc.; Abbie Lundberg, editor-in-chief of CIO Magazine; Hilary Mason, CEO and founder of Fast Forward Labs; and Mary Barra, chairwoman and CEO of General Motors Co.
