Dell EMC brings Enterprise Hybrid Cloud solution to VxRail appliances
Dell EMC is stepping up its hybrid cloud push by making its Dell EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud available on VxRail appliances, which combine computing and storage in one server.
EHC is Dell EMC’s engineered solution for hybrid clouds. It’s billed as an integrated and tested engineered solution that aims to deliver shorter time to value than an information technology organization can get building its own hybrid cloud infrastructure. EHC has been available on the company’s Vblock converged offering and on VxRack FLEX since 2014.
Meanwhile, VxRail is the company’s hyper-converged infrastructure offering, and the only appliances that use VMware Inc.’s vSAN. The company claims that it’s sold more than 8,000 VxRail nodes have been sold to over 1,000 customers since the appliance was launched, representing 65 petabytes of storage and 100,000 cores.
By making EHC available on VxRail, companies will be able to start out small and grow as their demand for hybrid cloud services expands, Dell EMC said in a statement. That’s because EHC on VxRail appliances are optimized to run between 200 and 1,000 virtual machines, and can expand as required, with installation fully automated and subscription-based support services also available.
Chad Sakac, president of Dell EMC Converged Platforms and Solutions Division, said in a statement that enterprises are increasingly adopting hybrid cloud models, but want help to ensure the experience is a smooth and simple one. “They’re looking for us to help simplify standing-up and managing these environments, which inevitably includes multiple cloud stacks, cross-cloud technologies and a combination of various off-premises and on-premises clouds,” he said.
The company cites a recent study from research firm 451 Research Inc., which said that three out of four hyper-converged deployments are in the core data center, and hybrid cloud is the next frontier for HCI, as proof of this expected demand.
“Hyper-converged infrastructure has quickly proven effective for core data center workloads and is becoming the answer for the on-premises part of hybrid cloud,” Sakac added. “Dell EMC VxRail Appliances as an infrastructure option for Dell EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud helps us simplify hybrid cloud for smaller enterprises and a broader set of customers.”
Dell EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud with Dell EMC VxRail Appliances is scheduled for general availability on March 31.
