CA boosts compliance, security features in mainframe monitoring tools

In the wake of the biggest global ransomware scare ever to hit the Internet, CA Technologies Inc. is introducing new data protection enhancements to two of its security management offerings.

The software company said the additions to its CA Data Content Discovery and CA Compliance Event Manager simplify enterprise-wide security management and enable end-to-end protection for data-in-motion across platforms ranging from mobile devices to mainframe computers.

CA Data Content Discovery discovers and classifies mainframe data according to sensitivity level and provides reporting on results so that critical data can be protected. CA Compliance Event Manager alerts administrators to breaches in real-time and provides insight into compliance issues. Both products are meant to address lack of visibility into critical data. CA cited recent Forrester Consulting research commissioned by Varonis Systems Inc. that found that only 35 percent of 150 data security decision-makers who were surveyed said they know where their company’s sensitive structure data is located.

The improvements include the ability to export mainframe security incidents to Splunk Inc.’s log analysis software for a unified view of risks (pictured), support for data-in-motion that helps prevent loss of sensitive data on the mainframe with increased coverage of data sets to secure all core applications, and simplified security and compliance features that help non-mainframe experts to respond to problems faster.

CA said the new feature eliminate the need for manual audits by quickly isolating sensitive data, a function that will become increasingly important as new regulations come into effect, such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation and the EU-US Privacy Shield agreement.

CA said the Data Content Discovery and CA Compliance Event Manager are the only data loss prevention solutions in the market that run entirely on the mainframe and that report on all core mainframe applications.

Data Content Discovery is available now with pricing starting at $340 per millions of instructions per second. CA Compliance Event Manager is available now with pricing starting at $300 per MIPS.
