IT transitions from cost center to revenue generator, HPE responds

As information technology infrastructure becomes more advanced, businesses demand more flexibility from their networks. At the same time, infrastructure is expected to be delivered as a complete solution providing a desired business outcome, rather than assembling individual components. This shifting paradigm is changing the way business perceive their IT organizations, according to Navin Mittal, director of products and solutions marketing, datacenter networking, at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.

“IT is now transitioning from a cost center to a revenue generator. And it’s not about firing people; it’s about re-utilizing resources so they can be more productive with the time that they have.” Mittal said.

Mittal spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio, during the HPE Discover event in Las Vegas, Nevada, about how HPE is changing how IT infrastructure is delivered. (*Disclosure below.)

Creating a reference design for IT

As developers become accustomed to expanded IT capabilities, HPE must ensure its products and services are staying competitive by offering a wide range of flexibility and programmability, according to Mittal.

The paradigm of infrastructure as code allows developers to have more control over their application performance, Furrier stated. HPE is able to provide a high level of programmability by creating complete reference architectures through key partnerships, Mittal responded.

“Six months back we announced a strategic relationship with Arista Networks Inc. where we basically said, ‘They are our preferred network provider moving forward. Our go-to-market has been reference architecture designs, creation of reference architectures with our server teams, especially for mission-critical applications,” Mittal concluded.
