Citrix and Nutanix team up to deliver employee friendly VDI solution

Nutanix Inc. and Citrix Systems Inc. are teaming up to deliver a streamlined application and virtual desktop infrastructure solution that is designed to improve the user experience across the enterprise. Both companies are responding to customer pleas for an easier way to deploy the necessary tools for workplace management with the end result being an improved experience for the employee.

“What really brought us together were customers that were trying to solve this issue of how to implement VDI. There has to be a better way,” said Calvin Hsu (pictured), vice president of product marketing at Citrix Systems.

Hsu stopped by theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, and answered questions from hosts Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu) during Nutanix.NEXT US 2017 in Washington, D.C. They discussed the Nutanix-Citrix partnership and how both companies are working to improve the enterprise workspace experience. (* Disclosure below.)

Nutanix recently announced One-Click Cloud integration as a part of the Citrix Workspace Appliance program, with the goal of simplifying deployment of XenDesktop and XenApp services. By running the joint solution on the Citrix XenServer and Nutanix AHV (virtualization solution), the goal is to reduce complexity and eliminate licensing fees.

Citrix and Nutanix aligned on hybrid cloud

The announcement involving CWA should be viewed as a way that Citrix is working with Nutanix to implement hyperconvergence, where users point at the cloud and can download all the resources needed to run Citrix workloads, according to Hsu. He told theCUBE that the Nutanix hybrid cloud strategy was in alignment with Citrix’s own vision.

“I would expect to see a lot more collaboration in that area,” he said.

Citrix is committed to tailoring workspace technology to better meet the needs of employees in the enterprise, Hsu added. “The way we’re looking at this market, and what’s happening to it right now, is less about user experience in the sense of protocol versus protocol and more about employee experience,” he said.
