Watch live from VMworld 2017: What’s VMware’s role in cloud-native trends?

How is the enterprise dealing with the realities of far-spread data distribution in an increasingly digital world? Global business looks to the emergence of true private cloud computing that fundamentally focuses on bringing the cloud experience to distributed data.

Looking to explore this and more, SiliconANGLE is at VMworld 2017, taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE. (* Disclosure below.) For the five-day conference, VMware Inc. brings together top thought leaders and information technology experts to discuss the technology, trends and people who are shaping the future of digital business.

Check out theCUBE’s VMworld 2017 preview below:

After predicting earnings upside earlier this month, VMware announced fiscal second-quarter revenue last week of $1.9 billion. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and amortization costs, were $1.19 per share.

The virtualization giant has started branching out into new areas, such as desktop virtualization, endpoint management, hyperconverged infrastructure and network virtualization. It recently updated its vSphere 6.5 platform, VMware’s flagship platform for implementing and managing virtual machine infrastructure on a large scale.

VMware and Amazon Web Services Inc. announced a partnership last October that would assist enterprises in integrating their VMware environments with the AWS cloud. The service was originally scheduled for a mid-2017 release, but no further details have been released. TheCUBE team will be hoping for additional details of how the agreement will work to be unveiled at VMworld, and with a large number of sessions focusing on AWS at the conference, it seems like a strong possibility. A recent report also indicated that the two former rivals were collaborating on a new data center product targeting hybrid cloud users.

“VMware is — and will remain — an essential enterprise technology for at least another two technology generations. Nonetheless, the steps the company and its ecosystem take now will shape enterprise technology options for years to come. As other, cloud-native technologies further mature, VMworld 2017 may be the most important gathering of VMware pros in years,” said Peter Burris, chief research officer at Wikibon.

General session speakers at VMworld 2017 include various VMware executives, including Pat Gelsinger, chief executive officer; Sanjay Poonen, chief operating officer, customer operations; and Ray O’Farrell, executive vice president and chief technology officer.
