Former Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency head Dr. Regina Dugan has mysteriously resigned from her role as the head of Facebook Inc.’s hardware lab “Building 8” after only 18 months to focus on “building and leading a new endeavor.”
Dugan, who along with leading DARPA, the U.S. government organization that created the internet, has an amazing work history. She also held the position of vice president of engineering for Advanced Technology and Projects at Google LLC, essentially running what is now Alphabet Inc.’s Project X Group. It designs some of the search giant’s out-there ideas such as the Project Loon internet access balloons.
In a Facebook post, Dugan quoted the late John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, perhaps alluding to her next position being something that could be world-changing.
The world is very different now. United, there is little we cannot do… divided, there is little we can do. Let us begin anew — remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness. And if a beachhead of cooperation may push back the jungle of suspicion, let both sides join in creating a new endeavor, where the strong are just and the weak secure. This will not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be finished in the first 1,000 days. Nor even perhaps in our lifetime. But let us begin.
As a role model, Dugan no doubt will be seen as a big asset to whatever company or project she gets involved in.
THANK YOU
