Marvel’s Stan Lee reimagines YouTuber as multimedia comic character

YouTube has given all kinds of folks a platform to unleash their voices on an unsuspecting public. Some users have managed to parlay their likes and subscribers into internet stardom. Twenty-four-year-old singer Rain Paris’ (pictured) uploads caught the eye of former Marvel Comics publisher and film producer Stan Lee, who’s now out to remake Paris into a multimedia superhero.

“We’re prepping with Marvel to go into one of their story lines,” Paris saidIn 2015, the Toronto native began uploading videos of herself covering chart-topping singles from famous recording artists, such as Rihanna. The videos garnered enough likes and shares to bring Paris to the attention of David Gold of D3M Licensing Group and G6 Licensing and Productions LLC, who now manages her.

Paris spoke with John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco last week.

Tech redraws media map

Gold introduced Paris’ recordings to Lee, with whom he had a pre-existing relationship. Lee decided to get on board and promote Paris. “He took over the movie industry; why doesn’t he take over the music industry?” Paris said.

Lee is working with Paris not just in the music business, but in other media as well. Lee envisions Paris as a superhero and has begun creating a comic book and a mobile application/game around her. (Paris’ dyed blue hair might have helped).

“Stan’s going to make a cameo in the game and in my music video as well,” she said.

The app is in line with the evolution of the superhero genre from paper comic books and films to PC games and mobile applications. The comic book will also be available in a tablet version, Paris said.
