Cloud data integration software maker Matillion raises $20M

Matillion Ltd. today said it has raised $20 million in new funding to expand the reach of its cloud data integration software.

Founded in 2011 and based in Manchester in the U.K., Matillion offers so-called extract/transform/load or ETL services for cloud data warehouses Amazon Redshift, Snowflake Computing Inc. and Google BigQuery. ETL refers to the three steps used to prepare and blend data from multiple sources so it can be analyzed for business use.

“Cloud-based data warehouses, like Amazon Redshift, Snowflake and BigQuery, are changing the game in data analytics, reducing cost, time-to-value and increasing the power available to businesses to load, transform and analyze their data,” Matillion Chief Executive Officer Matthew Scullion said in a statement.

Matillion said it’s booking annual recurring revenue of growth over 260 percent, though it didn’t provide specific revenue figures. More than 250 customers across 30 countries are now using Marillion’s tools including General Electric Co., Siemens AG, Citrix Systems Inc., Accenture PLC, Vistaprint, Zapier Inc., DocuSign Inc. and Upside Travel Co. LLC.

The Series B round led by Sapphire Ventures and included Scale Venture Partners and YFM Equity Partners. With the new round, Matillion has raised $26 million to date.

The company said it would use the new funding to expand sales, marketing, partnerships and research and development to accelerate development of the product line. As part of the deal, both Andreas Weiskam, managing director of Sapphire Ventures, and Andy Vitus, a partner at Scale Ventures Partners, will join Matillion’s board.
