New software development methodologies such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery are growing in popularity with enterprises as they allow them to deliver updates much more quickly than with traditional methods. Now, a startup called Applitools Ltd. is pitching its Application Visual Management tool to help speed up these processes and get updates out of the door even faster.
The company today announced it has raised $31 million in a Series C round of funding led by OpenView, with participation from existing investors Sierra Ventures, Magma Venture Partners, iAngels and La Maison.
Applitools has created what it calls the Automated Visual AI Testing and Monitoring Platform. It’s basically a kind of testing tool built for software developers that leverages artificial intelligence to ensure that their apps appear correctly and function properly on a range of devices, browsers, operating systems and screen sizes.
The platform, which can be thought of as a virtual pair of eyes, uses machine learning to analyze and assess millions of images of software applications on a daily basis. Applitools said its tool can be relied on as its Visual AI Engine is capable of 99.9 percent accuracy, which means fewer than 10 false detections per 1 million comparisons.
Applitools said the idea is to reduce software delivery cycles and also improve the visual quality of the applications developers build. “By helping prevent visual flaws from occurring in the application delivery process, teams can avoid the issues that frequently result from events such as browser and operating system updates, new devices penetrating the marketplace, and the effects of dynamic content on the web,” the company said in a release.
Applitools already boasts a big-name customer, Salesforce.com, Inc., which uses its platform to ensure its wide array of enterprise applications are looking and working as they should.
“Applitools makes it easy via their Application Visual Management approach, which enables automated validation of every aspect of the visual user experience,” said Bill Macaitis, senior vice president of marketing at Salesforce. “Applitools is a game changer.”
Applitools already claims to serve more than 300 enterprises. The company said it’s planning to use the new funds to fuel market expansion by scaling its operations, research and development, and sales teams.
“Our mission is to help customers automate all visual aspects of application delivery, and address the growing importance of providing exceptional digital experiences across any device, browser, operating system, and language,” Gil Sever, chief executive officer at Applitools, said in a statement.
Applitools is offering developers a free trial of its platform here.
