Now that the dust has settled in the merger between technology titans Dell and EMC, the new family of products and services is collectively addressing customers with digital transformation beyond just computing infrastructure. Promoting systems of engagement and data-driven insight, Dell EMC is eagerly moving the needle forward.
“We’ve seen these pendulum swings, centralized, decentralized, distributed, back to the cloud. But with ‘internet of things’ sensors everywhere, and data being created in the [network] edge, the [computer] core and the cloud, this really requires real-time computing everywhere,” said Howard Elias, president of Dell services, digital and information technology, at Dell Technologies Inc.
Elias spoke with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the Dell Technologies World event in Las Vegas. They discussed how Dell EMC is equipping customers for better business decision-making. (* Disclosure below.)
Customers are doing some “really cool stuff” with real-time data analytics, Elias explained. For example, one customer’s call center had plans to completely digitize. With Dell EMC’s SupportAssist service, the customer is able to analyze “billions and billions of events” with data-connected devices in a single day and develop profiles of what’s working and not working at the traditional call center.
The shift from Dell EMC Consulting to Digital and IT Transformation has brought on new business practices within the company too. The company’s new strategy is a “3 x 3 x 1” matrix. It’s focused on three specific offers in information technology, digital and workforce transformation. These core offerings, embedded with security all throughout, have resulted in a transformation program office, where they are capturing the attention of 12 markets around the world, coupled with expertise and their partner ecosystem.
“It gets back to a re-examining of what we’re really good at. And what we wanted to focus on was that strategic guidance and technology expertise around our products and technology, how we do that best, how we integrate into ecosystems and leverage the partners for the rest,” Elias concluded.
