Quick Base’s ‘low-code’ apps can now automate more business tasks

“No-code” software application development platform company Quick Base Inc. today added new automation capabilities to its platform, enabling users to automate a variety of mundane business tasks.

Quick Base provides an easy to use platform for workers to create software applications in just a few clicks. It works by configuring existing functions from other platforms and applications to speed up development, creating apps via program generators or programming languages that tie prewritten functions together.

Low code and no code are ways to design and develop software fast, with minimal hand-coding, by dragging and dropping application components.

Quick Base has some formidable rival in the low-code software game, not least Microsoft Corp., which recently launched its IoT Central service that allows users to create “production-grade IoT applications in hours.” Another rival is ServiceNow Inc., which acquired low-code software startup SkyGiraffe Inc. earlier this year.

Low-code software development platforms are gaining attention from enterprises that increasingly want to give their workers a way to solve problems more rapidly than they can do by waiting for information technology department teams to build solutions for them. The idea is that workers can move more quickly by building the apps they need themselves.

To that end, Quick Base is releasing a new feature for its platform called Quick Base Automations, which it says can help workers to build more power apps capable of solving unique problems, far more quickly.

“Automation is where the world is going, and this development is a real breakthrough for anyone who is still using spreadsheets and emails to manage processes,” said Jay Jamison, Quick Base’s senior vice president of strategy and product management. “With Quick Base Automations, we’re furthering our mission of providing a no-code platform that is simple enough for anyone to use yet is extremely powerful.”

Quick Base said the new feature enables “countless automation possibilities” as it enables users to do such things as add, update, delete and move information automatically, based on what’s happening with their Quick Base apps. The feature also allows for certain actions to be performed according to schedule, such as the creation of new projects with numerous steps that must be performed, taking snapshots of sales data on a daily or weekly basis, and identifying important customer accounts based on sales volume.

The feature can also be used to automate tasks such as managing approvals, orders, trouble tickets with smart forms that trigger data updates and actions.

“Once set up, your automated workflow software runs as designed and there’s no need to worry about dropped processes or ignored steps,” the company says on its website.
