Leaked Google Pixel 3 XL pictures show notch like an iPhone X
The first alleged pictures of Google Inc.’s forthcoming Pixel 3 XL smartphone have found their way online and, once again per previous reports, it seems it will come with an iPhone X-style notch.
The images, which first appeared on the XDA-Developers forum on Wednesday, show the notch along with a bezel known as a chin at the bottom of the phone that’s larger than similarly released top of the range phones from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
Among the other revelations from the pictures include confirmation that the model will have two front-facing cameras and a single rear camera — a strange decision at a time most companies are moving toward twin rear-facing cameras for their leading models. Although the previous Pixel XL model also only offered one rear-facing camera, it remains a highly regarded camera and is rated one point higher by DXOMark than Apple’s iPhone X and only one point behind the Samsung Galaxy S9+.
Visually, other changes are difficult to ascertain. The Pixel 3 XL has dropped the two-colored back of the previous model, but 9to5Google noted that it looks like this might be an all-glass phone with polished glass on top and some kind of brushed glass finish on the bottom.
The fingerprint scanner remains in the same location as the Pixel 2 XL and while not confirmed, previous reports have suggested the phone would be 6.2 inches tall, which would seem right from the photos.
On the screen itself, the data indicate a phone with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 128GB of storage. Those specs were previously reported, though Google will likely offer the phone with a number of memory options, including a 64GB model and possibly a 256GB option. The previous model had no support for microSD cards and it would appear the new model won’t either — nor will it offer a headphone jack.
Although a launch date has not been officially announced as yet, the Alphabet Inc.-owned company traditionally launches the latest incarnation of its hardware lineup in October.
