Go simple or go smart? Commvault GO keynote outlined options for both

In their keynote presentation at Commvault GO on Wednesday, the top two executives from Commvault Systems Inc. presented a view of the enterprise tech industry that focused more on attaining desired results than new outcomes. It’s a key distinction offered by Commvault’s Chief Executive Officer Robert  “Bob” Hammer and Chief Operating Officer Al Bunte, because today’s multicloud world is all about choice.

“You had the CEO and COO on stage talking about how when you go to the cloud, do you go simple or do you go smart?” said Stu Miniman (@stu), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio. “There’s some nuance there that you want to unpack and understand.”

Miniman was joined at the Commvault GO 2018 event in Nashville, Tennessee, by guest host Keith Townsend (@CTOAdvisor), principal at The CTO Advisor, and they discussed messages from the keynotes and new technologies announced during the conference, including a backup suite and intelligence tools for extracting information from data. Recovery suite with AI

Among the announcements from Commvault Go this week was a new Commvault Complete Backup and Recovery suite designed to simplify deployment. It included a Command Center dashboard equipped with intelligence capabilities for predictive analytics. Simple and smart.

Commvault also announced its 4D Index, which extracts, organizes and assesses data to provide a broader degree of understanding and help meet compliance demands. “It’s taking advantage of 15-to-20-year-old data to drive innovation in today’s society, while keeping compliant with GDPR and other regulations,” Townsend said.

Prior to the keynotes, Miniman spoke with one of Commvault’s partners, a representative from a company that had deepened its collaboration with the backup and recovery solutions firm. “They said one of the reasons they partnered deeper with Commvault is they’ve got good tech,” Miniman said. “There’s a reason they’ve been around for 20 years.”
