SAP updates its enterprise information management tools

Enterprise software giant SAP SE today added a bunch of new capabilities to its Enterprise Information Management suite in order to help to reduce the complexity associated with managing company data.

The updated products include SAP’s Master Data Governance offering for SAP S/4HANA 1809, which provides a central location to create, change, distribute or consolidate master data across enterprise systems.

It gains new master data quality management features that enable users to manage rules creation, analyze data quality and resolve any issues with that data. In addition, SAP Master Data Governance is now being offered on the SAP Cloud Platform, having previously only been available as an on-premises product.

The offering is being made available on SAP Cloud Platform in order to give customers a subscription pricing option, which should result in lower costs for some users, the company added.

Analyst Holger Mueller of Constellation Research Inc. said it was good to see SAP making its data governance offering available on the SAP Cloud Platform, since that’s where developers need it to be in order to build next-generation applications faster and more efficiently.

“It’s also what CxOs want to see if they’re to help their enterprises show the improved acceleration and agility they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive and faster environment,” Mueller said.

SAP is also expanding the connectivity options for its Data Hub data orchestration product, and a number of third-party enterprise information management tools. The company is providing new dedicated connections from any SAP Data Services source so that data can be more easily provisioned for distributed processing. The update also helps to improve connectivity between SAP Data Hub, SAP Agile Data Preparation and SAP Information Steward, providing better access to data repositories.

Finally, SAP said its HANA Smart Data Integration, HANA Smart Data Quality and Agile Data Preparation tools have gained new data anonymization and column encryption capabilities, enabling organizations that use these products to prepare data more safely. In addition, the SAP HANA Smart Data Integration tool is being made available on the SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite, providing a simpler way to extract, transform and load data from remote sources into instances of SAP HANA.
