Amazon Web Services Inc. and VMware Inc. are making their jointly developed VMware Cloud on AWS service more widely available by opening it up to Amazon’s partner network as well as AWS’ own salesforce.
As of today, customers will be able to purchase VMware Cloud on AWS directly from AWS and from companies in the AWS Partner Network or APN that are certified under its Solution Provider Program. Previously, the service could only be bought directly from VMware.
VMware on AWS is a hybrid cloud service that runs VMware’s software-defined data center stack in the AWS public cloud. AWS provides the elastic, bare-metal infrastructure on top of which VMware positions its SDDC stack, which includes NSX, vSphere and vSAN.
The service supports all kinds of workloads and use cases, including SQL Server migrations, Oracle migrations, SAP workloads and more. One of the main advantages is that workloads can request more capacity as needed and use less resources during quieter times.
In an interview with SiliconANGLE, Sandy Carter, vice president of AWS Enterprise Workloads, said one of the benefits of purchasing from APN partners is that customers can take advantage of promotional programs such as the company’s Migration Acceleration Program.
“We’ve taken our partnership to the next level,” Carter said of the deal.
In addition, Amazon said its launching a new partner enablement track for VMware Cloud on AWS. The idea is to help Amazon partners build expertise in supporting customer projects that rely on the service.
