Telecommunications firm Ooma Inc. today said it has acquired cloud-based data and voice solutions provider Broadsmart Global Inc. for $7.4 million.
Founded in 2000 and owned by B. Riley Principal Investments, Broadsmart Global is a cloud-based communications provider that claims to provide high value, high quality and increased efficiencies for hosted internet protocol and session initiation protocol/IP trunking for midsized to enterprise-class customers.
Offering unified communications, hosted voice, fiber connectivity solutions, SIP/IP trunking and other services, the company provides customized solutions to meet customer needs with a pitch that is all about saving money. Broadsmart serves customers throughout the U.S. and Canada, including Coldwell Banker Schmitt, according to the company website.
For Ooma, the acquisition of Broadcomm will allow the company to expand on its existing lineup of cloud-based voice and collaboration tools which are primarily focused around a core voice over IP offering.
“Broadsmart is a great fit for Ooma because of its emphasis on tailoring solutions and white-glove customer support, which aligns with the approach of Ooma Enterprise,” Eric Stang, chief executive officer of Ooma, said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing business solutions from Ooma into Broadsmart’s channel and offering Broadsmart customers an enhanced experience in the future.”
Previous acquisitions by Ooma include Talktone, a smartphone app that enables users to make free phone calls and SMS texting via WiFi or 3G connection, in 2014; Butterfleye, an artificial intelligence-powered, cloud-connected security camera for businesses startup, in 2017; and Voxter Communications Inc., a provider of white label Voice over IP solutions for businesses and resellers, in 2018.
The Broadsmart acquisition is expected to close by the end of May subject to customary closing conditions.
