APPS

Within Google you can now order food without using other apps

Starting today, you don’t even have to leave Google search, Maps or Assistant to order something to eat.

Google LLC has made this possible by forming partnerships with delivery companies such as DoorDash, Postmates and ChowNow. But you no longer need to download their apps or visit websites.

It’s simple enough: When you are in search or looking at maps and come across a restaurant, an “Order Online” button will appear on the screen and you go from there. If the restaurant supports a delivery service, you are good to go and you don’t need to leave Google.

When using the Google Assistant, you just ask for a restaurant you want to eat from, after which you can ask for a certain delivery service. You then select the items you want, but all the time you haven’t left the Google interface. Not bad for a couch potato who doesn’t like the extra steps in ordering a pizza.

Google’s plan is to get as many delivery services on side as possible. Now there are five, but the company said it’s looking to expand. For now, the feature is currently only available in the U.S., in an unspecified “thousands of cities.”

The food delivery market is on fire at the moment. One of Google’s partners, DoorDash Inc., today announced a $600 million funding and a valuation of $12.6 billion.

Google’s new service is probably as convenient as it will get, unless mind-reading technology is in the works. You never know.
