Blockchain-based distributed API company dfuse raises $3.5M funding

Dfuse Platform Inc., a provider of blockchain distributed ledger application programming interfaces, announced Wednesday it has raised $3.5 million in a seed funding round led by Multicoin Capital and Intel Corp.

As an API provider, dfuse makes it possible for developers to rapidly build distributed, high-performance blockchain-based applications. The company provides open-source libraries that allow for quick integration, a powerful block explorer for reading the blockchain and around-the-clock support.

“Every day, we are blown away by the quality of blockchain applications being built on top of dfuse,” said Marc-Antoine Ross, co-founder and chief executive of dfuse. He explained that the money from Multicoin and Intel will be used to expand the company’s cross-blockchain technology — which currently includes access to the EOS blockchain and will soon add Ethereum — and customer support teams.

“We’ve assembled a team of voracious learners that has built and delivered a powerful platform that is still only scratching the surface of its capabilities,” said Ross.

For developers to do the job of building a blockchain distributed apps, dfuse delivers a reliable Web3 stack for distributed web applications using GraphQL, WebSocket and REST, all of which are popular ways to connect apps using common APIs.

Blockchain networks operate without a centralized authority by spreading out the computation between many nodes that execute code and contracts according to encoded instructions. This is what is referred to as distributed application development and takes advantage of the tamper-proof nature and fault tolerance of blockchain technology to build applications that run autonomously, securely and protect user data with cryptography.

The company’s four flagship products are designed to take the stress out of building these apps. These products include dfuse Stream, dfuse Lifecycle, dfuse Search and dfuse On Demand Networks.

Dfuse Stream provides real-time updates about the current state of the blockchain, allowing for rapid insights into changes to the data. With dfuse Lifecycle developers can submit transactions to the blockchain, verify acceptance and guarantee irreversibility on a single API call. That takes advantage of the indelible nature of the blockchain once a transaction has been completed.

Dfuse Search allows developers to query the entire transaction history of the blockchain, making it possible to follow entire chains back to their origin using a simple, but extremely powerful query language. Finally, the dfuse On Demand Networks provides dedicated on-demand blockchain environments for dev, test or production, fully loaded with the entire tool set provided by the company ready for any development team to jump right in.

“Dfuse equips developers with robust and reliable APIs to build modern, high-performance applications,” said Kyle Samani, managing partner at Multicoin Capital. “Streaming data and search are two of the most powerful building blocks in modern applications. They are unlocking a massive, new design space.”

Developers can sign up for an API key from dfuse and start immediately with a free plan to jumpstart their own blockchain-based distributed apps.
