Salesforce bolsters data capabilities with Einstein Search, Sustainability Cloud

Just days after its last product release, Salesforce.com Inc. today introduced Einstein Search and Sustainability Cloud, two solutions that are both aimed at enabling companies to better manage internal data but focus on vastly different goals.

Einstein Search will allow organizations to make customer records more easily accessible for employees. The tool is the successor to the current search bar in Salesforce’s cloud platform, which handles over a billion queries per month. The company has added in machine learning algorithms to make the user experience more akin to that provided by Google.

Salesforce can now understand natural-language queries such as “show me leads in the greater Los Angeles area.” To surface relevant data, Einstein Search takes into account each worker’s job description when deciding what records to fetch and also checks past files they looked up in the past.

“Einstein Search increases productivity by not only displaying the most relevant information for each user, but also serves up customizable actions within the search results,” Will Breetz, Salesforce’s vice president of product management, detailed in a blog post. “For example, instead of searching for a contact, clicking into their record, and then manually attaching the contact to an opportunity, you can take these same actions just by using the enhanced Einstein Search bar.”

The other solution Salesforce debuted today, Sustainability Cloud, is a tool for companies to organize and visualize data about their environmental footprint. It aims to replace the spreadsheets that organizations have historically relied on for the task.

Sustainability Cloud visualizes a company’s power consumption in a dashboard that shows how utilization translates into carbon emissions. The tool shows a wealth of related information as well, such as what percentage of the electricity comes from renewable sources and whether the organization is meeting internal sustainability goals. A built-in commenting mechanism allows users to exchange feedback directly in the dashboard interface.

Sustainability Cloud will become generally available in December. Salesforce has already made an early beta version accessible to a handful of customers, including DocuSign Inc., a publicly traded provider of electronic signing software.
