

When Oracle Corp. introduced its Generation 2 Cloud in 2018, the company went to great lengths to emphasize how the architecture was designed to support enterprise needs.
The release was designed to address what top company officials saw as a previous generation of clouds that put customer data unnecessarily at risk through flawed security and failed to take full advantage of automation tools to generate a return on business investment.
“As you get a process in automation going forward, the people capability that maintains applications becomes easier,” said Mike Owens (pictured), group vice president of cloud advisory and general manager of Oracle Consulting’s Elevate. “Some of the business cases we’ve seen are entire information-technology organizations saving 30-plus percent. If you multiply that on a large Fortune 100 that may have a billion-dollar budget, that’s real money.”
Owens spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, as part of Oracle Consulting’s “Empowering the Autonomous Enterprise of the Future” initiative. They discussed the company’s collaboration with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd. and the role cloud plays as an enabler of enterprise operations. (* Disclosure below.)
Nearly a year after launching Generation 2 Cloud, Oracle Consulting teamed up with Deloitte Consulting LLP. to help customers migrate and manage enterprise workloads through a strategic sales and delivery collaboration called Elevate. The partnership was designed to upgrade database infrastructure and help in the transition to cloud-delivered autonomous solutions.
“Deloitte really has functional capabilities and expertise with an Oracle practice, and Oracle [Consulting] has the technical expertise,” Owens explained. “The combination of the two really allows us to scale and provide the ‘one plus one equals three’ effort for customers.”
That effort also takes into account the reality of today’s hybrid world, where enterprises prefer to keep some workloads on-premises while making an inevitable move to embrace cloud.
“It’s not just 100% cloud,” Owens said. “It’s a combination that you pull from on-premises and your systems of engagement and your systems of record. Cloud is really an enabler to pull everything together.”
