Oculus Quest 2 promo videos leaked before this week’s Facebook Connect

The standalone all-in-one virtual reality Oculus Quest 2 headset has been leaked in full via a pair of promotional videos posted on YouTube here and here.

The videos were uploaded to a marketing website run by parent company Facebook Inc. before the reveal of the device at the upcoming VR and augmented reality conference Facebook Connect starting Wednesday. They also outline potential specs for the standalone headset, first reported by The Verge, that’s an updated version of the Oculus Quest from 2019.

According to the videos, the headset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 platform and chipset, which is designed for AR and VR hardware. The video and states that the headset supports 6 gigabytes of RAM and up to 256GB of storage as well as 3D positional audio and beacon-free tracking – which means there’s no need to set up little sensors on the walls or floor to use the headset.

It also uses the “guardian system,” which means it can be used in a room with furniture or other obstacles and will warn users that they’re about to collide with an object or wall before they do.

The videos also mention that the headset is lighter and more comfortable for users with an easier to use strap, a more economic system and nicer controller technology. It still has a powerful USB-C cable for connecting to VR-ready computer that will upgrade it from a standalone headset to a wired headset.

There’s a bit of talk about the various games and experiences that are available for the headset, many of which are activity-based such as “Beat Saber,” “Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets,” “Vader Immortal” and “Arizona Sunshine.”

The device is expected to have its debut during Facebook Connect during live demos on Sept. 16 and 17.
