Watch live: Customers take center stage at Actifio Data Driven 2020

The thought of managing a 120-terabyte instance breaks the laws of physics, but it’s possible with copy data management services from Actifio. The company manages a hefty database for one customer — Sentry Data Systems Inc. — as part of a very timely cause.

“They have a 120-terabyte database, and they’re using it to help the federal government get better data faster on COVID treatments,” said Brian Reagan, chief marketing officer of Actifio, who spoke with Dave Vellante, chief analyst at SiliconANGLE sister market research firm Wikibon and host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio.

The Sentry Data example offers a glimpse into what participants can expect to hear more about during Actifio’s annual Data Driven conference, a virtual event kicking off September 15. It could well be titled “Customer Driven,” as Actifio believes in giving customers a significant platform as part of the event, where they can share use cases that highlight how optimizing copy data can help solve major problems.

“From accelerating data analytics to accelerating DevOps initiatives to accelerating a move to the cloud, we’re going to hear all of those different use cases described,” Reagan said.

TheCUBE will be broadcasting interviews on September 15 with Actifio executives and key industry leaders during the event. Discussions will cover product news, trends in the copy data management industry, Actifio’s role in supporting the global community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the company continues to innovate data management for multicloud solutions. Enterprise analytics and copy data challenges

The global enterprise data management market is set to grow from $77.9 billion this year to $122.9 billion by 2025. And according to a report released earlier this year, a majority of companies are in the early stages of developing business data-management strategies. Vital for many enterprises is not just capturing and processing data, but analyzing it as well.

“Data is plentiful, but insights are not,” Vellante said. Part of the problem is data ‘clutter,’ where redundancies, inconsistencies and sprawl make it difficult to focus on getting real value from data. A data-oriented mindset takes a system view of the data lifecycle and marries processes and people with tools that transform organizations’ information from a collection of data islands to a unified core.”

Actifio, founded in 2009, provided the first-generation copy data management platform that applied similar techniques of virtualization pioneered in the field of compute by VMware Inc. Actifio’s solution collapsed physical copy data sprawl while speeding up access, and others soon followed suit.

“It validated this was a real problem in the enterprise and continues to be a real problem in the enterprise. By using technologies that Actifio pioneered and patented for a lot of foundational technologies, we’re able to help customers address those copy data challenges, those spiraling costs of managing all of these duplicate physical instances of data,” Reagan said.

Because development teams can work on fresh data without the need to make physical copies, less storage is required, thus creating more agile workflows and better information access.

Actifio’s “any cloud” approach continues to expand. It recently launched data protection services for Google Cloud’s Bare Metal Solution and announced technical validation and support for Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.
